Senior Embedded C++ Engineer (Contract)

About the role

A team developing low-level firmware for embedded systems is hiring a senior engineer. The role focuses on performance-critical C++ software in bare-metal and embedded environments, working close to the hardware. The hiring company is Instil.

What you'll do

• Design, develop and maintain embedded software and firmware in C++
• Redevelop and modernise existing low-level software systems
• Work directly with hardware and peripheral devices in bare-metal environments
• Debug complex software, firmware and hardware integration issues
• Optimise software for performance, reliability and resource use

What you'll need

• 7+ years of commercial experience developing software in C++
• Strong background in embedded software or firmware development
• Experience with bare-metal systems and low-level programming
• Understanding of embedded architectures, memory management, interrupts and hardware interfacing
• Familiarity with Linux-based development and Git

Nice to have

• Exposure to Assembly language and legacy codebases
• Experience with ARM or other embedded processor architectures
• Experience with RTOS-based systems
