Staff Software Engineer – Stripe Tax

About the role

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform used by businesses of all sizes to accept payments. The Stripe Tax team builds systems that help companies calculate, report and file sales and indirect taxes across many jurisdictions. The role shapes technical direction for a SaaS product where correctness and auditability are critical.

What you'll do

• Drive technical strategy for Stripe Tax's most important platform investments
• Design scalable, resilient systems and data models for tax correctness and auditability
• Align engineering, product, legal and go-to-market teams on tax experiences
• Drive interoperability with Stripe products and external tax ecosystems
• Mentor engineers and raise the engineering bar through hands-on leadership

What you'll need

• 10+ years industry software engineering experience with large-scale distributed systems
• Track record of sound architectural decisions while staying hands-on in code
• Track record of leading complex, multi-team technical programmes to delivery
• Exceptional communication and influence with senior stakeholders

Nice to have

• Experience in tax, fintech, payments, accounting or regulated domains
• Experience working with large enterprise customers on complex requirements
• Experience designing integrations with external systems and APIs
